SYP and Steyn today
SYP was completed in 2019. Because the building stands right next to the station, some windows have an extra glass box around them. These so-called deaf façades (dove gevels) break up the noise from the trains. SYP also has the only accessible rooftop in Utrecht at this height.
Steyn was completed in December 2022. It is split into Little Steyn and Big Steyn; Big Steyn hosts the access to the parking garage.
The garden between the buildings was completed in January 2023. After four years, this gave SYP a second exit.
The façade pattern of SYP was repeated in Wonderwoods, so that Wonderwoods blends in better with its surroundings.
Before SYP
Until 1974 the street was called the Leidseweg. The Van Sypesteyn barracks (Van Sypesteynkazerne), named after the military historian Jan Willem van Sypesteyn, stood here until they were demolished around 1968. In 1974 the easternmost part of the Leidseweg was renamed the Van Sijpesteijnkade.

Unlike most other buildings in the Utrecht station area, the buildings on the Van Sijpesteijnkade were pre-war until around 2014. A striking part of this row of façades is the national monument (rijksmonument) at number 25: a house that was converted into an office in 1912.
